How We Help Companies Design An Efficient Recycling Process

Companies that implement an efficient recycling process save time and money. Warehouse of organized recycled materials.“We want to have an efficient recycling process; we just don’t know what that looks like.” That’s the basic message we hear a lot at Miller Recycling. Most business leaders don’t need to be convinced about the benefits of recycling these days. They understand the environmental and financial impact of recycling. They know it’s something their employees and customers care about. They know they’re wasting time and money with their current system for managing waste, and that they need a more efficient system.

What business leaders don’t know is how to actually implement that efficient recycling process—that’s where we come in. We work with companies to get them set up with all the recycling equipment, pickup services and support they need.

An efficient recycling process looks different with every company. Here’s an idea of what might happen after you reach out to Miller Recycling for help.

  1. Start with a general assessment of your current system. First things first: we need to understand your company’s specific waste management and recycling needs. I want to know things like: What kind of work does your company do? How big are your facilities? What kind of waste do you generate, outside of standard office trash? How much and what kinds of recycling equipment are already onsite? What pickup services do you use for disposing of waste? How much are you currently paying for those services?

Arranging a site visit is ideal, so you (or someone from your company) can literally walk us through your space. We might even get feedback from workers, especially anyone who interacts with your current recycling system. This walk-through can reveal a lot of useful information about where the inefficiencies are.

  1. Talk about your goals for your company’s recycling process. When we talk to a company about creating a more efficient recycling process, I want to know what success looks like for that company. Are there specific targets you want to reach? Are you primarily concerned about maximizing space, or saving money? When we are on the same page we can make sure the process that Miller Recycling designs is aligned with your goals.
  2. Create a new plan for your commercial recycling equipment. Depending on what we’ve learned from our site visit and discussions about your company’s goals, we can then make recommendations about the type, amount and placement of recycling equipment that we believe you need. You might be surprised by how much more efficient recycling becomes, company-wide, once you have all the right equipment in place. Bringing in commercial equipment like balers and compactors can free up a great deal of room, and make it faster and easier to get cardboard and other trash out of your space so this junk doesn’t build up.
  3. Help you create strategies for managing electronic waste, paper waste, hard-to-manage waste or whatever else you have. No matter what kind of recyclable waste your company generates, we can help your company dispose of it correctly. For example, Miller Recycling can advise companies about recycling bin placement within office spaces to maximize paper recycling and protect sensitive data. We can bring in locked containers to hold all your obsolete paper files until they can be shredded.

Managing electronic waste can be an especially great challenge for today’s companies. Your organization has to protect its data security when getting rid of obsolete electronics, while complying with e-waste disposal laws designed to keep dangerous materials out of landfills. Miller Recycling’s sister company, Northeast Data Destruction, uses powerful commercial shredders to rip hard drives and other data-storing devices into tiny pieces. Once the company’s data is completely destroyed, the shredded metal and plastic that’s generated during destruction can then be properly recycled.

  1. Get you set up with pickup/drop-off services that meet your shifting needs. If your recycling service picks up your materials too frequently, you’ll pay more than necessary. If pickups are too infrequent, recyclables will pile up in your space until they block pathways and create other safety risks that no business can afford. A key part of maintaining an efficient recycling process is partnering with an efficient and flexible recycling service to collect your materials. Miller Recycling provides scheduled pickups, but your company can adjust its schedule as needed—or even arrange to drop off your materials to our facility, if that makes more logistical sense for you.
  2. Find the most lucrative and cost-effective ways for you to dispose of recyclables. Environmental benefits and efficiency aside, we know that money is a big motivator driving business leaders to revamp their recycling processes. You’re leaving money on the table if you’re not getting paid top dollar for valuable scrap metal and other recyclables that your business generates.

Maximizing ROI is always at the forefront of the conversations we have with customers as we set up new systems. We’ll help you understand the market value for all the recyclable materials you have, and make sure you follow best practices to squeeze as much money as possible out of your business’s waste.

  1. We’ll check in and provide support to keep your newly-designed efficient recycling process running efficiently. As you start to implement your new recycling system, we will work with you to iron out the kinks. We can even help you troubleshoot problems like wish-cycling, and help you understand and operate your recycling equipment correctly. As your company grows, shifts its focus or moves to new premises, we are here to help you tweak your recycling process.
